A city judge sentenced a Baltimore man yesterday to 100 years in prison for the brutal beating of a man that led to his death in a motel stairwell in the summer of 2006, according to the Baltimore state's attorney's office.

Ernest Knox, 25, of the 900 block of Woodington Road, who has gone by the alias Donnell Williams, was convicted in March of first-degree murder in the beating of Cecil Saunders, 28. Baltimore Circuit Judge Robert Kershaw sentenced Knox to life in prison with all but 100 years suspended.

Kershaw also sentenced yesterday two other men who were convicted in March for participating in the attack. Leneal Montay Collins, 30, of the first block of S. Wickham Road was sentenced to 35 years for assault and conspiracy to assault. Demetrius Williams, 19, of the 5900 block of Daywalt Ave. was sentenced to 45 years for similar charges.
