HCC event on business ideas
Members of the community are invited to join investors, business leaders, scientists and others for Howard Community College's "Entrepreneurial Celebration," where students from three HCC classes in entrepreneurship will present their business ideas and innovations.
The event begins with a networking reception at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday on the first floor of the Rouse Company Foundation Student Services Hall, 10901 Little Patuxent Parkway, Columbia. Student presentations begin at 6 p.m.
Students from the college's "Entrepreneurship & Creativity" course will compete against the clock to pitch new business ideas to a juried panel.
Students from "Technology Transfer, from Invention to Marketplace" will analyze market potential for several new inventions from government-supported research laboratories, such as the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab, NASA Goddard and USDA.
Hospitality and Culinary students will also showcase their business ideas.
Light refreshments will be served. Admission is free, but reservations are recommended.

Business women to meet May 21
The Business Women's Network of Howard County will meet from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. May 21 at Howard Community College's Rouse Company Foundation Student Services Hall to honor its 2008 Woman of Distinction, Mary Ann Scully, president and CEO of Howard Bank.
Scully serves on the boards of United Way, The Horizon Foundation, The Columbia Foundation, the Women's Giving Circle and UMBC's Alex Brown Center for Entrepreneurship.
Also, three continuing education students will each be awarded a $1,000 scholarship.
The business women's Network is a volunteer-run networking organization with more than 200 members.
