Free dental clinic for kids offered in Oakland Mills

The Kiwanis Club of Columbia will join with the Oakland Mills Community Association in supporting an early childhood dental clinic from 9 a.m. to noon May 16 at The Other Barn in the Oakland Mills Village Center.

The clinic is sponsored by Parents As Teachers, a parent education and support program of the Howard County Office of Children's Services. Children can receive a free dental examination and a free application of fluoride.

The Kiwanis Club has selected Stephanie Hunter, a senior at Oakland Mills High School, as Teenager of the Year.

She will receive a $1,000 college scholarship. The award is based on community service, character, and academic achievement.

Hammond High dance concert

The Hammond High School dance department will present its last concert of the year at 7 p.m. May 15, 16 and 17 in the school auditorium, 8800 Guilford Road.

Tickets are $8. A three-day ticket for all three concerts costs $20.

Books and coffee at library branch

The East Columbia branch library, 6600 Cradlerock Way, will hold a meeting of its Morning Books with Coffee club will meet at 10:30 a.m. May 28. The group will discuss Eat, Pray Love by Elizabeth Gilbert.

Basket bingo fundraiser set

The Oakland Mills High School theater department will hold Longaberger Basket Bingo on May 16 at the school, 9410 Kilimanjaro Road. Doors open at 5 p.m. and Bingo begins at 6 p.m.

All the baskets are filled; some rare baskets will be featured. Admission is $15 in advance; $10 at the door. Extra Bingo cards, food and drinks will be available to purchase.

Around Town

Music society concert -- The Ebony Classical Music Society will hold its fifth annual spring concert at 4 p.m. today at Christ Episcopal Church, 6800 Oakland Mills Road. Winners of the organization's annual competition will perform. Admission is free. 301-596-6099.

Classes, therapies -- The East Columbia 50+ Center is offering appointments for reflexology -- deep foot massage -- 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Mondays. The cost is $40 for a 50-minute treatment. Appointments are also available between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Fridays. Reiki treatments are available by appointment 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the first and third Fridays of each month. The cost is $30 for a 55-minute treatment.

Tai Chi for Arthritis is offered 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. The emphasis is on breathing and inner stillness to relieve stress and anxiety. The cost is $32 a month; no drop-ins.

"Harmonize Exercise Class" meets 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays. O.H. Laster, a personal fitness trainer, teaches "Stamina, Strength, Stretch and Synergy." The cost is $24 a month; No drop-ins.

Pilates class, to improve strength, flexibility and coordination while reducing stress, meets noon to 1 p.m. Thursdays. The cost is $36 for six weeks.

Trip to the Hillwood Estate: Museum and Gardens, Washington, is planned 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. May 15. The cost is $50. Registration and payment are due as soon as possible. 410-313-7680.

School anniversary -- Stevens Forest Elementary School will hold its 35th anniversary celebration from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday. Those who attend can expect guests, games, music, food and a chance to meet new and old friends and reminisce about the past. 410-313-6900.

Beading class -- The Columbia Association Art Center, 6100 Foreland Garth, will offer a bead-btringing workshop, with artist Pat Baker, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 11.
