The Columbia Association will celebrate the opening of the renovated Mini WaterPark with a party from noon to 4 p.m. May 31. The Swansfield Mini WaterPark features a 104-foot-long water slide, 1,500-square-foot SplashPad and several Funbrellas around the pool.
The grand opening celebration will include music, games, food and give-aways and is open to everyone. A ribbon cutting, face painting, tug of war, moon bounce, carnival games and swimming are also planned. Each person who attends will receive a ticket for a free hot dog, snow cone, popcorn or soda. Additional items can be purchased for 50 cents each.

Tot-lot crawl for fitness
As part of the "Get Active Howard County" campaign, the Hickory Ridge Community Association will sponsor a Tot-Lot Crawl from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, beginning at The Hawthorn Center, 6175 Sunny Spring.
Families with children can walk, ride bicycles, or push strollers to complete a self-paced one-mile loop that includes visits to four tot lots in the Hawthorn neighborhood. Brief physical activities will be offered at each tot lot, and a passport will be stamped after each visit to a tot lot. Children who return to The Hawthorn Center will receive a participation award.

Wii club offered for seniors
Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks will offer a Wii Club for seniors, ages 55 and older, at 10 a.m. Tuesdays at the Bain Center. Participants can improve hand-eye coordination and get some exercise while competing against their peers in the interactive video game. The first game is free.

Marionette show set for May 16
The Rainbow Theatre at Slayton House in the Wilde Lake Village Green will conclude its season with a performance of The Teddy Bear's Picnic, by Bob Brown Puppets, on May 16.
The story is presented with marionettes, music sound effects, and a range of characters' voices. Performances are at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Tickets are $5 in advance; $6 at the door, if available. Group rates are available.

Dancers at library -- Dancers from the Misako Ballet Studio in Harper's Choice will perform at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Central Library, 10375 Little Patuxent Parkway.
"Spring into Science," a program for children ages 3 to 6 with an adult, will be offered at the library at 10 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. Tuesdays, through May 27. The program explores simple scientific concepts and experiments inspired by children's literature. Registration is required.
A "Children's Book Week Celebration," when children ages 3 and older can come disguised as their favorite children's book character, is offered at 2 p.m. May 16, when Howard County schools are closed. Stories, crafts and a parade are planned. Registration begins Friday. 410-313-7860.
Student art -- The art department at Howard Community College is presenting its spring student art exhibit at the Rouse Company Foundation Gallery in the college's Horowitz Center, 10901 Little Patuxent Parkway.
