Collecting bikes for the world
The social ministry committee of First Evangelical Lutheran Church will collect used bicycles for Bikes for the World from 9 a.m. to noon May 10 on the church parking lot, 3604 Chatham Road, Ellicott City.
The bicycles will be sent to people in need around the world. A $10 donation is requested for each bicycle to help with the cost of shipping. Adult and children's bicycles are welcome.
Beth Shalom to celebrate Israel
Beth Shalom Congregation, 8070 Harriet Tubman Lane, Columbia, will hold a celebration after Shabbat services tomorrow in honor of the 60th anniversary of the founding of the modern state of Israel.
Services begin at 9:30 a.m.
Discussions to focus on climate change
The Jewish Federation of Howard County and the Climate Change Initiative of Howard County will sponsor a five-week discussion group, "Climate Change with a Jewish Perspective," at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, May 28, June 4 and June 11, at Federation offices, 10630 Little Patuxent Parkway, Columbia.
There is a charge of $20 for discussion guides.

Dinner, auction at Temple Isaiah
Temple Isaiah, St. Mark's Episcopal Church, St. John's Episcopal Church, and Trinity Episcopal Church will hold a spaghetti dinner and silent auction from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. tomorrow to benefit interfaith Habitat for Humanity missions and renovations needed by The Arc of Howard County.
The event will be held at Temple Isaiah, 12200 Scaggsville Road, Fulton. The cost is $8; $4 for children ages 4-12.
'Nazi Hunter' author speaks
The Columbia Jewish Congregation will sponsor a free talk by Alan Elsner, author of the novel, The Nazi Hunter, from 10:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. Sunday at Oakland Mills High School, Columbia.
St. Anthony shrine sets celebration
The Shrine of St. Anthony, 12290 Folly Quarter Road, Ellicott City, will hold a May Crowning and Procession, honoring Mary, at 3 p.m. Sunday.
The service will include a Rosary Walk, starting in the chapel and continuing outside to the three statues of the Blessed Mother, weather permitting; the statue of the Blessed Mother in the chapel will be crowned with flowers.
