The Baltimore Sun

No. 5 Johns Hopkins (7-5)

Coming up: @No. 13 Loyola, Saturday, 1 p.m.

Comment: A win over the Greyhounds would likely seal a first-round NCAA tournament game at Homewood Field for the Blue Jays. Junior midfielder Austin Walker has nearly tripled his career production in goals with eight this season.

No. 7 UMBC (10-3)

Coming up: vs. Binghamton, America East tournament semifinals, Thursday, 7:30 p.m.

Comment: The Retrievers, who are 5-0 in league play and host the tournament, followed a similar pattern in winning the conference title in 2006. Freshman attackman Dom Scalzo has taken nine shots and scored eight times.

No. 9 Maryland (8-5)

Coming up: vs. Yale, Saturday, 1 p.m.

Comment: The Terps, who have defeated the Bulldogs seven consecutive times, could use another win to lock up a first-round NCAA tournament game at home. Maryland's No. 6 man-up offense is led by freshman attackman Grant Catalino's team-high five goals.

No. 13 Loyola (7-5)

Coming up: vs. No. 5 Johns Hopkins, Saturday, 1 p.m.

Comment: The Greyhounds are eager to end an eight-year skid to the Blue Jays, who haven't dropped a game in the series since March 12, 1999. Senior faceoff specialist Tim McDermott ranks eighth in the country with a .596 percentage (102-for-171).

No. 15 Navy (9-5)

Coming up: No games scheduled

Comment: The Midshipmen will be doing a lot of hand-wringing until the tournament bracket is announced Sunday night. If Navy doesn't play again, senior attackman Nick Mirabito will tie Dave Bayly (1972-1974) with 153 career points on the program's all-time scoring list.

Towson (5-9)

Coming up: Season completed

Comment: The Tigers' worst season since going 3-10 in 2000 was characterized by a lethargic offense and an inconsistent defense. Senior attackman Jonathan Engelke finished his career ranked third on the school's all-time goals list with 113.
