Born in Halifax, N.C., Elizabeth Flood was one of nine children. She moved to Baltimore after marrying Elmer Smallwood in 1937.
They later lived in Severna Park, raising two children.
Mrs. Smallwood, who was known as "Liz," loved to fish and to garden. She canned her fruits and vegetables and sometimes made jellies. She also would sew some of her own outfits. She loved to cook for her grandchildren and to make them laugh.
She worshiped at St. James Church in Glen Burnie and most recently at Mount Zion United Methodist Church of Magothy.
Mr. Smallwood died last year.
A memorial service is planned for 3 p.m. today at McCully-Polyniak Funeral Home, 3204 Mountain Road in Pasadena.
Mrs. Smallwood is survived by a son, Eugene Arthur Smallwood of Odenton; a daughter, Crystal Denise "Niece" Henderson of Baltimore; 10 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
