Hammond Elementary plans garage sale

Hammond Elementary School will hold its Spring Garage Sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. The rain date is May 4.

Anyone with gently used goods is invited to reserve a space to sell. Forms to reserve space are available at the school or online at www.hespta.org/garage-sale.html.

Music society plans benefit

The Ebony Classical Music Society will hold its fifth annual benefit Spring Concert at 4 p.m. May 4 at Christ Episcopal Church, 6800 Oakland Mills Road. The nonprofit organization promotes the study, appreciation and performance of classical music among talented singers.

Winners of the organization's annual competition will perform at the concert.

Center to offer meditation class

The Vikatadamshtri Buddhist Center of Baltimore will offer a meditation seminar, "Settling the Mind," from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Oakland Mills Interfaith Center, 5885 Robert Oliver Place.

Artist to teach beading class

The Columbia Association Art Center, 6100 Foreland Garth, will offer a Bead-Stringing workshop, with artist Pat Baker, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 11.

Participants can learn basic techniques for creating a bracelet, necklace and earrings.

Tuition is $60 for residents; $70 for nonresidents.

Book club to discuss 'Erasure'

The east Columbia branch library, 6600 Cradlerock Way, will hold a meeting of its Black Fiction book club at 1 p.m. Saturday. May 3

The group will discuss Erasure by Percival Everett.

The Good Reads book club will meet at 7 p.m. May 14 to discuss March by Geraldine Brooks. Books are available at the branch.

The library's Morning Books with Coffee club will meet at 10:30 a.m. May 28. The group will discuss Away by Amy Bloom. Books are available at the branch.
