Mariners update
Seattle has lost only two series this season, including a four-game sweep at Camden Yards April 4-7. The Mariners are hoping that Ichiro Suzuki's two hits on Sunday were an indication that he's snapping out of a season-long funk. A career .333 hitter entering the season, he's batting .259 this year. Hernandez blanked the Orioles on five hits over eight innings on April 6, but his 2-0 lead dissolved into a 3-2 loss. The Mariners' bullpen has twice blown leads for him this season. Closer J.J. Putz (rib cage) is expected to come off the disabled list today. The Mariners are exploring the possibility of signing Frank Thomas, released over the weekend by the Toronto Blue Jays.
