Teens to take part in Envirothon

County teens will participate Wednesday in the 2008 Canon Envirothon, a natural resources competition for high school students, in the Days Cove area of Gunpowder Falls State Park.

Students have been studying about the state's natural resources and environmental issues in preparation for the outdoor competition.

The highest-scoring county team advances to the state competition in June.

Faculties schedule basketball fundraiser

The faculties of Franklin Middle and Franklin High schools in Reisterstown will hold their third annual "Two Schools, One Cause" Battle for the Bell Charity Basketball Game at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Franklin High gym, 12000 Reisterstown Road.

Proceeds from the game and money raised by students go to the V Foundation for Cancer Research in memory of Jim Valvano, a college basketball coach and broadcaster who died of cancer in 1993.

Department of Aging to host programs

The Department of Aging is presenting programs on Social Security at county senior centers this spring.

Laura Feldman from the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare will discuss "Will Social Security be There for You, Baby Boomer?"

Programs will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Essex; 1 p.m. April 29 at Cockeysville; 12:30 p.m. May 2 at Pikesville; 4 p.m. May 19 at Ateaze; and 10:30 a.m. May 21 at Catonsville.
