John Bruce McNeal, a retired Social Security Administration information technician, died of appendiceal cancer April 9 at Johns Hopkins Hospital. The Eldersburg resident was 57.
Mr. McNeal was born in Louisville and spent his early years in Princeton, Ky., before moving to Simsbury, Conn., in 1962. He earned a degree in psychology from The King's College in Briarcliff Manor, N.Y., in 1973.
Mr. McNeal worked for the SSA for 34 years before retiring last month because of failing health.
He was a member and past president of the St. Andrew's Society of Baltimore and was a captain in the Maryland Loyalist Battalion, a Revolutionary War re-enactors group.
Mr. McNeal was a member of Concordia Lodge No. 13 A.F.&A.M.; and a member of Beaver Lodge, a Masonic re-enactors group.
He enjoyed riding motorcycles and was an active member of the Harley Owners Group of Elkridge.
Mr. McNeal was also an active member of Winfield Bible Chapel.
Services were held Saturday.
Surviving are his wife of 34 years, the former Grace Elizabeth Golden; two sons, Shawn David McNeal of Columbia and Evan Ross McNeal of Eldersburg; his father and stepmother, Don Frank and Mary Grace McNeal of Princeton, Ky., and a brother, Scott Edward McNeal of Bristol, Conn.
