Blue Jays update

The Blue Jays (7-5) have been up and down this season but enter this series tied with the Orioles for first place in the American League East. Toronto swept three games at home from the Boston Red Sox the first weekend of the season but then was beaten in three straight at home by the Oakland Athletics. The Blue Jays responded by sweeping three games from the Texas Rangers, including yesterday's 5-4 victory in 10 innings. Outfielder Alex Rios' streak of reaching base ended yesterday at 22 games. The Blue Jays' team batting average is .271, second best in the American League. They are first in on-base percentage (.362) and fourth in runs (62). Former Orioles closer B.J. Ryan, who is trying to return from ligament-reconstruction surgery, was activated yesterday and recorded his first save in more than a year. On his rehabilitation assignment, he allowed one run in four appearances for Single-A Dunedin.
