ABOUT SIX MONTHS AGO, KIMBERLY KEPNES and Debbie Kehoe, two Ellicott City real estate agents, noticed a "For Rent" sign on a three-story stone building in the town's historic Tongue Row. Eyeing the great location, they jumped at the chance to lease the property. Then, Kepnes said, they asked themselves, "What are we going to sell?"

The answer, they figured out, is gifts, accessories and items for the home in a boutique decorated to look like a French cottage.

Brightly colored clutches, scarves and jackets are arranged against the rough white walls. Display cases glisten with both costume and estate jewelry.

The merchandise includes cloth clutches that start at $20 and leather handbags that go for $300. Jewelry prices range from $8 for a piece of costume jewelry to $400 for a piece of fine jewelry. The shop is also one of the few in the area to offer Glenda Gies chenille purses, Kepnes says. "It's all about a woman's fancy," she says.
