Man, 43, stabbed; police arrest son

A 43-year-old Columbia man was in serious but stable condition last night at Maryland Shock Trauma Center after being stabbed in the neck, police said.

Timothy Forest Cavender, 22, of the 12200 block of Green Meadow Drive has been charged with first- and second-degree attempted murder and first- and second-degree assault. Cavender, the son of the injured man, was being held without bond at the Howard County Detention Center.

Officers responded to a report of a fight just after 3 a.m. yesterday in an apartment complex in Clary's Forest. After receiving a second call from an apartment, the officers went to that unit, where they found the victim with a single stab wound. Police said they found Cavender in possession of a large knife, and he was arrested. No one else was in the home.
