Ronald Simmont Sr. of Glen Burnie says he listens to NOAA Weather Radio every day, and he always hears the same voices: "How can this be? No matter what time I tune in, it's the same woman and guy giving the current conditions. Don't these people sleep?" They never do. They're computer-generated, text-to-speech synthetics. The lucious female voice is "Mara" (an upgraded "Donna"). The chipper male is "Tom." The Spanish-speaker is "Javier." Audio samples at weather.gov/nwr/newvoice.htm.
