Cancer support group to meetM Upper Chesapeake Health has a new cancer support group for individuals who have been diagnosed with cancer and their families.

The group will meet at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Harford Memorial Hospital and 2 p.m. Saturday at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center.

'Dining with Docs' event planned

Upper Chesapeake Health will hold a "Dining with Docs" dinner, lecture and discussion at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in Upper Chesapeake Medical Center's Chesapeake Conference Center.

Dr. Edward O'Mara, orthopedic surgeon, will discuss "Sports Injuries: Are You Safe?"

April is Youth Sports Safety Month. Participants can learn how to prevent unnecessary injuries and what to do if they occur.

The cost is $5 (cash only). Reservations are required.

Car seat safety lecture set

The Upper Chesapeake Family Birthplace will hold a car seat safety lecture from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Upper Chesapeake Medical Center.

Parents will learn the proper way to install a child safety seat and what seat is right for their child.

Dinner, lecture on bariatric surgery

Upper Chesapeake Health will offer a dinner and lecture on bariatric surgery at 5:30 p.m. April 23 at the Hilton Garden Inn in White Marsh.

Dr. Terrence Fullum, director of Upper Chesapeake's Bariatric Surgery, and Dr. Stephen McKenna, will discuss laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery and lap banding.

The cost is $15, payable at the event by cash or check. Reservations are required.

Childbirth Course starts April 26

Upper Chesapeake Health will offer a weekend Prepared Childbirth Course from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. April 26 and 27 at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center.

The cost is $50 for couples delivering at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center and $80 for those delivering elsewhere.

Weight Watchers group to meet

The Beyond Fit Gym will offer a new Weight Watchers group that will meet at 7:30 p.m. Saturdays at 112 Connolly Road in Fallston.

The gym opens at 7 p.m. for the meeting.

Hospital programs get accredited

The oncology programs at Harford Memorial Hospital and Upper Chesapeake Medical Center have been accredited by the American College of Surgeons, Commission on Cancer.

The three-year accreditation recognizes the quality of both hospitals' comprehensive, multidisciplinary cancer care services.

Approval by the Commission on Cancer is given only to facilities that voluntarily undergo a rigorous evaluation process and review of its performance.
