After splitting two games with the Orioles in their season-opening series and then taking the first two games of a four-game set against the New York Yankees, the Rays dropped four straight before shutting out the Seattle Mariners yesterday, 7-0, behind Edwin Jackson. A sputtering offense was the main culprit as the Rays hit just .167 during the four-game skid. Injuries have taken their toll on Tampa Bay, which has eight players on the disabled list. Matt Garza, who was expected to start in the series, joined Rays ace Scott Kazmir on the disabled list Tuesday with nerve irritation in his throwing arm. Designated hitter Cliff Floyd was shelved Wednesday with a tear in his right knee that will require surgery. Starting third baseman Willy Aybar also is struggling with a sore hamstring. Left fielder Carl Crawford had two hits yesterday and is two shy of 1,000 for his career.
