Monday night, the Astros got a little payoff from their deal with the Orioles that sent shortstop Miguel Tejada to Houston for a fistful of players. In the Astros' 5-3 win over the St. Louis Cardinals, Tejada made a sparkling play in the field in the top of the ninth and then won the game with a two-run homer in the bottom of the inning.
Meanwhile, the Orioles are enjoying some solid production from three of the players they got in the Tejada trade - outfielder Luke Scott and pitchers Matt Albers and Dennis Sarfate - in the team's startling 6-1 break from the starting gate.
But aside from the on-field developments, Tejada is the subject of a federal inquiry into whether he fibbed to investigators for a House committee about performance-enhancing drugs. Regardless of how all that turns out, it's a distraction the Orioles should be happy to have dodged.
