Victim identified -- Police yesterday identified the man fatally shot Sunday night in the 3100 block of McElderry St. as Kevin Ruffins, 23, of no fixed address. Police said Ruffins and another man were shooting at each other about 10:15 p.m. when officers intervened. When one of the men refused to drop his weapon and pointed it at the officers, a policeman fired. The gunman, later identified as Ruffins, ran to the 3100 block of E. Monument St. and collapsed. He died about two hours later at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Police said the investigation continues.
Burglary -- Someone broke into a house in the 3500 block of Clark's Lane through a door Monday and stole $300.
Robbery -- A driver for New Harbor Inc., a taxi service, was stopped in the 500 block of N. Robinson St. about 4 a.m. Monday when two men he picked up earlier robbed him at gunpoint of his keys and $70.
Burglary try -- Between 7:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. Sunday, someone attempted to break into First Financial Credit Union in the 7900 block of Belair Road by first cutting the telephone/burglary alarm wires then prying open a door. Unable to gain entry, the intruder fled.
