Economic Develop ment hires business develop ment specialist

Katrina M. Carroll has been hired as the new business development specialist by the Howard County Economic Development Authority.

She will administer the Howard County Incentives Program, the attraction of businesses to Howard County and their retention.

Carroll, who has more than 15 years of experience in finance, project management, law, affordable housing and real estate development, is completing a dual Master's of Science and MBA degree at the University of Maryland University College.

Howard Bank vice president moves to financier j-ref

Brenda Tompkins, former operations manager at Howard Bank, has been hired by j-ref, a small-business financier in Howard County, to manage loan administration, accounting and other operations of the organization.

She has more than 31 years of banking experience, most recently as a vice president at Howard Bank, a partner of j-ref, where she also served as an ad hoc member of j-ref's finance committee.

Children's Guild board chairwoman elected

Bonnie K. Heneson, president of Bonnie Heneson Communications, was elected chairwoman of the board of trustees of the Children's Guild, a statewide organization serving children with emotional disabilities.

The Children's Guild operates schools, group homes, foster homes and a mental health center for children and adolescents with emotional and behavioral disorders.

Bonnie Heneson Communications is a public relations, marketing and advertising agency with offices in Owings Mills and Columbia.
