Driver sought in hit-and-run

County police said they are seeking the driver of a truck in a hit-and-run accident that seriously injured a Parkville teenager last week.

Police said yesterday they believe the vehicle that hit Michael Thompson, 17, of the 1400 block of Parktrail Road might have been a U-Haul truck with a large image of a prehistoric, worm-like creature called the "Tully Monster" on its side.

The accident occurred at 8:46 p.m. April 1 on McClean Boulevard near Perring Parkway while Thompson was in a crosswalk, police said. Witnesses told police that the truck stopped briefly, then continued on McClean to Perring Parkway.

Thompson, a senior at Parkville High School, was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he underwent his fifth surgery yesterday, said his father, Nelson Thompson of Camp Springs.

His father said his son's pelvis was crushed and needs to be reconstructed, and that he has nerve damage on the right side of his body. Because of the pelvic injury, doctors are not sure whether he will walk again.

Crash investigators said they believe the truck's occupants were in the McDonald's restaurant on McClean Boulevard just before the accident.

Anyone with information about the accident is asked to call Baltimore County Police at 410-307-2020 or Metro Crime Stoppers at 866-756-2587.
