Two Morgan State University students were arrested and charged with possession of narcotics and possession of a deadly weapon after they were pulled over Sunday night, city police said.
About 10:30 p.m., Sgt. Dennis Workley and Officer Antonio Cirillo, both of the Northeastern District, stopped the driver of a 2004 Acura TSX for exceeding the speed limit in the 4100 block of Moravia Road near Belair Road, police said. Workley said the car was traveling well over the 25 mph limit when it was stopped.
During an investigation and a search of the vehicle, the officers seized a half-pound of marijuana, a loaded .25-caliber semiautomatic handgun, a small quantity of crack cocaine and nearly $900, police said.
Charged with simple possession of drugs, possession with intent to distribute the drugs and unlawful possession of a deadly weapon were the driver, Daniel K. Thompson, 20, of the 4800 block of Truesdale Ave. in Baltimore, and the passenger, Morgan L. Mayfield, 20, of the 20400 block of Oak Bluff Drive in Montgomery County.
Workley said Thompson and Mayfield identified themselves as Morgan students and that they were being held at Central Booking and Intake Center.
