Patricia B. Ruby, 56

Patricia Beere Ruby, a Towson University project manager, died of cancer complications March 29 at Franklin Square Hospital Center. The Hamilton resident was 56.

Born Mary Patricia Beere in Baltimore and raised in the Hampton section of Baltimore County, she moved with her family in 1964 to Westfield, N.J.

She attended Marquette University, then earned a bachelor's degree in English from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. She earned a master's degree in education from the Johns Hopkins University in 1981.

She was senior project manager for extended education and online learning at Towson University's Center for Applied Information Technology, with responsibility for contract development, grants, proposal writing and project development. Earlier, she held administrative positions with Baltimore County government.

She received a master gardener designation and enjoyed hosting dinner parties.

A Mass was offered Thursday at the Roman Catholic Church of St. Michael the Archangel, where she was a member.

Survivors include her husband of five months, Thomas Melvin Ruby, a college administrator; her mother, Mary Brough Beere of Parkville; four sisters, Eileen Houston of Houston; Victoria Zahka of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, and Mary Anne Davis and Rosemary Keyes, both of Timonium; a stepdaughter, Shelby Ruby of Baltimore; and nine nieces and nephews.
