CHADD group to meet Tuesday

The Howard County CHADD Parent Support Group for parents of children diagnosed with ADHD will meet from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday and on the second Tuesday of each month.

Sarah Weden of NeuroBehavioral Associates will speak. The topic is "Wired Differently: Neuroscience and ADHD."

The meeting will be at the Norbel School, 6135 Old Washington Road, Elkridge.

School board, NAACP to meet

The Howard County Board of Education will meet with the NAACP Education Committee at 7 p.m. Tuesday in ML2, the lobby conference room at the Department of Education, 10910 Route 108, Ellicott City.

The board will meet in closed session at 3 p.m. Thursday at the Department of Education. At 4 p.m., the board will hold its regularly-scheduled meeting in the boardroom at the same location. Both the afternoon session and an evening session, which convenes at 7:30 p.m., will begin with a public forum, when members of the public can address the board on any topic for which there is no formal hearing process.

PSAT, SAT classes set

Registration is open for SAT and PSAT preparation courses to be held from 7 p.m. to 9:15 p.m. at these schools on the following dates:

Mount Hebron High School, tomorrow and April 14, April 21 and April 28.

Reservoir High School, tomorrow and April 14, April 21 and April 28.

Howard High School, Tuesday and April 15, April 22 and April 29.

Glenelg High School, Wednesday and April 16, April 23 and April 30.

Hammond High School, Thursday and April 17, April 24 and May 1. Classes will be held from noon to 4:30 p.m. April 19 and April 26 at Chapelgate Christian Academy.

The cost is $185 and includes tuition and materials. Classes are open to all high school students.

GED classes open for registration

The Maryland Multicultural Youth Center's Langley Park office is providing free preparation classes for the General Educational Development test for Maryland residents ages 16 to 24 who do not have a high school diploma.

Registration for the GED practice test must be done by Friday; testing begins the next week. A mandatory orientation is scheduled for April 28, and classes, which will be held from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, will be held May 5 through July. Classes will be held at 7411 Riggs Road, Suite 418, Hyattsville.

Study skills classes begin this month

The Stressless Tests program will present high school study-skills classes from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. April 23 through May 14 at Centennial High School in Ellicott City.

Spring middle school study skills classes will meet from 3:45 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. April 22 through May 13, and from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. tomorrow through April 28 at Burleigh Manor Middle School in Ellicott City. The cost is $175 a session and includes a "Study for Success" DVD.

A five-day summer study skills course also is being offered. High school classes meet from noon to 2 p.m. the weeks of Aug. 4 and Aug. 11; middle school classes meet from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. the weeks of July 28, Aug. 4 and Aug. 11. The cost is $185 and includes the DVD. The classes meet at Centennial High School.
