Patten allows one hit in No. 2 Spalding's win

Second-ranked Archbishop Spalding needed only five innings to produce an 11-0 baseball victory over visiting Old Mill.

Winning pitcher Jason Patten pitched a one-hitter and struck out seven.

Matt Hillsinger paced the Cavaliers' offense with three hits and two RBIs. Kody Hines drove in three runs on two hits, Jeff Kemp had a run-scoring double, Adam Summerfelt drove in two and Eddie Palmer hit an RBI double.

Boys lacrosse

No. 7 Severna Park 4, Bullis 1 -- The Falcons (3-0) scored two third-quarter goals to overcome a 1-0 halftime deficit on their way to defeating Bullis (3-4) in a game that was marked by stellar goalkeeping on both sides. Johns Hopkins-bound Steven Burke made 12 saves for Bullis, and Andrew Gvozden and Jeff Lowman combined to stop 14 of 15 shots for Severna Park. After a scoreless first period, Ryan Aschenbach found the net for Bullis for the only goal in the first half. Jeff McGuire tied the game at one with his goal four minutes into the second half. Kyle Zorn followed that with a goal later in the period to give the Falcons a lead they would not relinquish.

Gonzaga 10, Annapolis 8 -- The Eagles used a 6-2 third quarter to defeat the Panthers at the Severna Park tournament. Annapolis took a 3-0 lead and was up 4-2 at halftime. Jake Wilhelm scored a game-high three goals, and Nick Poerstel had two goals and an assist in the loss. The Panthers have lost all three of their games this season by a combined four goals.
