Longaberger Basket Bingo planned for Friday

Manor Woods Elementary School will hold a Longaberger Basket Bingo at 7 p.m. Friday.

Doors open at 6 p.m. for the adult community event, which includes food and prizes.

The event will help fund PTA-sponsored educational, health and cultural activities at the school.

Autism fundraiser part of nationwide effort

The Autism Society of America and Pump It Up will sponsor "Bounce for Autism," a nationwide, community-based fundraiser to raise awareness and support for children with autism.

Six "bounces" will be held around the country next month and in June, with the first event to be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday at Pump It Up, 7184 Troy Hill Drive, Suite H, in Elkridge. A team of bouncers, some or all of whom may be affected by autism, will ask for donations to fulfill their pledge to bounce in the indoor inflatable playground. 866-350-9311, or www.bounceforautism.org.

College scholarships -- The Elkridge Adult Athletic Association, a 30-year-old community association, will accept college scholarship applications from high school seniors until April 19. At least three scholarships will be awarded. Danny Tracy, 410-796-4389.

Soccer program -- Registration is open for the Elkridge Youth Organization soccer program. Regular registration ended Feb. 29; late registration ends tomorrow. The co-ed, recreational program emphasizes instruction, fitness and fun. Players ages 5-17 are welcome. Free bridge, other games -- The Kiwanis-Wallas Recreation Center is offering free drop-in bridge and pinochle and favorite table games. A bridge group meets from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays; Pinochle meets from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays. Those who attend are invited to bring a bag lunch. Coffee, tea and treats will be provided. Donations are accepted for the snack fund.

Duplicate bridge is available from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Wednesdays and 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Fridays. Mah-jongg is played at the center from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Wednesdays. Admission is free.

A Bunco program for people ages 55 and older, sponsored by Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks, will meet at the center from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. April 28, June 23, July 28 and Aug. 25. A $1 donation is requested at the door.

A community service group meets to knit and crochet blankets, baby clothes and other items for charities, hospitals and senior centers from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month at Kiwanis Wallas center. Donations of acrylic yarn are appreciated.

Chess -- The county library's Elkridge branch, 6540 Washington Blvd., sponsors a chess club for ages 13 and older from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays. Players of all abilities are welcome, but they must know how to play chess. Snacks will be provided. Registration not required. 410-313-5077.'Hello Dolly!' -- Mount Hebron High School will present the musical, Hello Dolly! at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday in the school's auditorium. The show, which is appropriate for all ages, is costumed by Barbara Bogart. Musical direction is by Robert Johnston and Chris Herttenbach. Choreography is by Amanda Tschirgi. Tom Sankey directs. Learning English -- The county library's Miller branch library offers an English conversation club from 7:45 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. Wednesdays for people who speak English as a second language and would like to practice conversation in a group setting. Spring fling -- The Elkridge Volunteer Fire Department's Junior firefighters will sponsor a Spring Fling youth dance for ages 9-15 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. April 19 at the firehouse.
