Harford Transit has announced that bus service is being extended to serve the Abingdon Catholic Charities Housing Complex on St. Clair Road in Abingdon beginning tomorrow.
The new route will provide direct bus service to the complex from about 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays.
Residents at the housing complex will have access to Harford Transit's bus services to various areas of the county. By providing a direct link on the bus routes 2 and 2A, Harford Transit will allow residents to travel to shopping areas, medical appointments, educational facilities, hospitals and recreational activities.

Emergency tests on first Wednesday
Maryland and the Harford County Division of Emergency Operations tests two emergency siren systems on the first Wednesday of every month.
The Peach Bottom system, covering a 10-mile area surrounding the Peach Bottom Nuclear Power Plant, is tested at 1 p.m. The South East Warning System (an all-hazard siren warning system) is tested at 4 p.m.
The test siren blast is shorter than the steady three-minute siren tone that county officials will sound in a real emergency. During an actual event, emergency services may also use loudspeakers and door-to-door notification to supplement the siren.
Citizens are reminded that during an actual emergency they should tune radios to the local Emergency Alert System Station to hear emergency instructions. Those stations serving Harford County are WXCY (103.7 FM); WHFC (91.1 FM) and WBAL (1090 AM). Harford Cable Network (HCN) broadcasting on COMCAST Channel 21 and Clearview Channel 7 also will also air emergency instructions.

Town meeting set on teen drinking
The Harford County Department of Community Services' Office of Drug Control Policy will hold a town hall meeting, "Stop Underage Drinking," at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Abingdon library branch, 2510 Tollgate Road.
Joseph Ryan, manager of the Office of Drug Control Policy, will lead the meeting in a discussion of underage drinking.
The meeting is part of a nationwide effort to increase understanding and awareness of underage drinking and its consequences, and to encourage families and communities to address the problem.

Hydrant flushing begins Tuesday
The Harford County Public Works Department's Water and Sewer Division will begin its biannual flushing of approximately 4,000 fire hydrants across the county on Tuesday.
Flushing will take place between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. Officials expect the project to be completed around July 15.
During flushing, water may be temporarily discolored, water pressure may be reduced or water service even temporarily disrupted.

Cecil gets funding for soccer fields
The Maryland Board of Public Works recently approved Program Open Space funds for Cecil County.
Cecil is receiving a $23,677.79 grant to finance six soccer fields and a parking area at Chesland Park in Elkton.
