Notre Dame Prep tops No. 6 St. Mary's, 10-9

In a back-and-forth game, Notre Dame Prep came from behind to defeat No. 6 St. Mary's, 10-9, in girls lacrosse.

Led by Kelsi Bozel, the Blazers took a 7-2 first-half lead. But the Saints scored seven unanswered goals to take a 9-7 lead in the second half. Bozel had three goals and two assists in the win. Megan Schrum finished with four goals and three assists.

No. 3 John Carroll 17, No. 14 North Harford 7 -- Senior Grace Gaeng scored six goals, and three of her Patriots teammates had hat tricks. After holding a one-goal lead at halftime, John Carroll pulled away in the second half for a comfortable win.

Boys lacrosse

Bullis 6, Annapolis 5 -- The Panthers (0-2) rallied from a 6-1 fourth-quarter deficit but came up short against Bullis and suffered their second straight one-goal defeat to open the season. Chris Novak scored both his goals in the fourth quarter as the Panthers scored four times to close within 6-5. Annapolis had a chance to tie the game late, but two saves by Bullis goalkeeper Steve Burke in the last two minutes preserved the victory.

Marriotts Ridge 8, South Carroll 7 -- Senior midfielder Danny Incontrara had two goals and an assist to help the Mustangs outlast the Cavaliers. Chris Ashcraft scored a game-high four goals in the loss. Marriotts Ridge led 3-1 at halftime.

Baseball

No. 5 C. Milton Wright 7, No. 10 Arundel 3 -- Woody Wlodarczyk went 3-for-4 with a double and a three-run homer to lead the Mustangs (4-0) past the Wildcats (1-3). Winning pitcher Brad Markey threw a complete game, striking out five and allowing one earned run. He also doubled and went 2-for-4.

No. 3 Centennial 13, Atholton 0 -- Reigning Howard County Player of the Year Ben Winter picked up where he left off last season by tossing a five-inning no-hitter to lead the Eagles past the Raiders. Winter helped his cause with a double, a triple and two walks.

Softball

No. 6 Institute of Notre Dame 1, St. Mary's Ryken 0 -- In tie-breaker format, Lauren Vetock singled home Valerie Cook in the top of the eighth inning, and the Indians (4-2) held on to beat the Knights at the Grand Strand Classic in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Winning pitcher Kayla Mohr threw a one-hitter and struck out six.
