Curley wins pitchers' duel, 2-1

No. 8 Archbishop Curley's Sean Thompson bested No. 6 St. Paul's Matt March, as each threw a four-hitter in a 2-1 win for the Friars yesterday.

Curley scored its runs in the third on a throwing error that scored Brandon Franke, who had doubled, and a fielder's choice by Brad Waltman to give the Friars a 2-1 lead.

Cottonwood 7, No. 1 Calvert Hall 2 -- Calvert Hall lost its third straight game in the National Classic in Anaheim, Calif., to Cottonwood (Utah). The Cardinals, who have one game left today, went to Anaheim as Baseball America's No. 1 team and are expected to be dropped from the poll.

No. 9 Chesapeake-AA 1, Glenelg 1 -- Steve Visnic went eight innings and gave up one run and five hits as the Gladiators (0-1-1) tied the Cougars (0-1-1).

Softball

No. 9 Mount de Sales 4, Louisa County (Tenn.) 3 -- Christine Crawford singled to right field to score the winning run in the ninth inning as the Sailors (5-1) beat the Lions (4-3) in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Girls lacrosse

No. 15 Roland Park 14, Mount de Sales 9 -- Laura Simanski scored four goals and Caroline Seats had a hat trick to power the visiting Reds (2-0) past the Sailors (1-1).

Friends 13, IND 8 -- Katie Levy had four goals to power the host Quakers (2-0) past the Indians.
