Man attacked while trying to buy drugs

An Annapolis man who was assaulted during an attempt to buy drugs was accosted again when he went to another city neighborhood with the same mission, city police said.

The Cherry Point Road man, 44, told police at Anne Arundel Medical Center early Tuesday that he had gone to Captain's Circle in search of drugs that night and an unknown man approached, knocked him down, and shot at him as he fled.

Then the victim headed to the Clay Street area, where he said a man came at him with a knife, and he fled again.

He was being treated at the hospital for a shoulder injury suffered when the man on Captain's Circle knocked him down.

Man charged in theft of electrical supplies

An Annapolis man has been charged with three thefts at city electrical supply companies in the past month, police said.

Employees of Rexel Electric Supply, 601 Chinquapin Round Road, reported about 9 a.m. Tuesday that a man had gone into the warehouse, loaded a large amount of merchandise onto a cart and left without paying.

Officers stopped Harry Daniel Hupp, 47, of Boxwood Road at Chinquapin Round and McGuckian roads and recovered marijuana and crack cocaine, along with the stolen items from Rexel, in his van.

He was arrested and charged with theft and drug possession and with additional counts of theft for two similar incidents: one at Rexel on March 14 and one at another electric supply company on Gibralter Avenue on Feb. 18.

He is being held at the Jennifer Road Detention Center in lieu of a $7,500 bond.

Drug raid nets six arrests, mostly teens

Annapolis police arrested six people and seized cocaine, heroin and a Chevrolet Caprice during a drug raid in the Robinwood public housing community.

Officers raided four homes on the 1300 block of Tyler Ave. about 6 a.m. Thursday, recovered the drugs and arrested the following:

Keith Roland Gross, 17, of Tyler Avenue, was charged as an adult with possession of ammunition.

Kelton Linwood Foote, 24, of Tyler Avenue, was arrested on warrant charging him with failing to appear in court to answer a prior theft charge.

A boy, 15, of the 1100 block of Frederick Douglass Street, arrested at his grandmother's home on Tyler Avenue and charged with possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute.

A boy, 15 of Tyler Ave., arrested and charged with possession of marijuana.

An boy, 16, of Tyler Avenue, arrested in the car and charged with possession of crack cocaine.

An boy, 15, from Glenwood Street, arrested in the car and charged with possession of marijuana.

The investigation, part of the new Capital Cities Safe Streets initiative, was undertaken as a result of neighborhood complaints and information as well as part of efforts to reduce crime in the area.

'Operation Roundup' targets pet violation

Anne Arundel County animal control officers targeted the community of Edgewater on Wednesday, impounding stray animals, citing people for walking dogs without leashes and in one case, finding a squirrel kept as a pet in a backyard cage.

Keeping a wild animal as a pet is a crime, and Anne Arundel police said they referred the case to the Maryland Department of Natural Resources for further investigation.

Other people found violating animal control laws were given citations.

The officers participating in "Operation Roundup" said they impounded two stray dogs, and later found their owners and cited them for not keeping their pets under watch. Five people were warned for not having their dogs on a leash or not licensed by the county.

Pasadena man charged in drug activity

A Pasadena man has been arrested after a monthlong investigation into suspected drug activity at his home, Anne Arundel County police said.

Officers last week raided the home on the 8600 block of Machias Harbour and seized 80.5 grams of marijuana with a street value of more than $2,400 and $802 in cash..

Richard Dallas Richmond, 24, was arrested and charged with numerous drug crimes including possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.

Charges are pending for a second suspect who also lives at the home.
