Olive S. Rinehart, a retired Baltimore County Department of Education secretary, died of a lung ailment March 12 at the Gilchrist Center for Hospice Care. The Towson resident was 85.

Olive Elizabeth Stumpf was born in Pittsburgh. She met Elijah "Bud" Rinehart, her future husband, during a summer vacation. They married in 1946 and moved to Towson.

She was a secretary for the Teachers Association of Baltimore County and later was secretary to Anthony Marchione when he was associate and deputy superintendent of Baltimore County schools.

"I considered her an outstanding assistant," said Mr. Marchione. "She was meticulous about grammar and language structure. She kept me straight about anything I wrote. She also had outstanding personal skills."

Mrs. Rinehart was a 50-year member of Towson Presbyterian Church and had been clerk of the session, a deacon and elder.

She was active in the Towson Women's Club for more than 50 years, serving in several elected positions. She was named the 1983 Woman of the Year by the Business and Professional Women's Association.

She and her husband visited many countries in Europe and Asia and attended the Passion Play in southern Germany. She was also a volunteer in the Greater Baltimore Medical Center gift shop.

A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. today at Pickersgill Retirement Community, 615 Chestnut Ave.

Survivors include a son, William Rinehart of West Palm Beach, Fla; a daughter, Jean Lillquist of Stewartstown, Pa.; and four grandchildren. Her husband died in 1999.
