No. 2 Maryland used runs in both halves to defeat Johns Hopkins, 16-8, yesterday afternoon at Homewood Field.
The Terps improved to 7-1 overall, while the Blue Jays fell to 2-4. Hopkins senior Lauren Schwarzmann (Century) scored two goals.
Katie Princiotto scored twice during a game-opening 4-0 run by Maryland before senior Kirby Houck (Garrison Forest) scored a free-position goal to put Hopkins on the board.
The Terps answered with another 4-0 run as Ali Perkins assisted on three of the four for Maryland.
With the score 8-2 early in the second half, Schwarzmann scored her second goal on a free-position shot. Sarah Mollison answered for the Terps just more than a minute later, scoring off a restart after a Blue Jays foul.
Houck cut the deficit to four goals when she dodged the left alley and scored her team-best 12th of the season.
Sam Schrum followed with her second goal of the day off a crisp pass from Brett Bathras with 21:05 to play.
