2. Georgetown

LOCATION -- Washington.

3. Wisconsin

THE BUZZ -- The Badgers won the regular-season Big Ten title with a 16-2 record.

4. Vanderbilt

LOCATION -- Nashville, Tenn.

HOW THEY GOT HERE -- At-large berth from Southeastern Conference.

RECORD, RPI -- 26-7, 12th.

NCAA HISTORY -- This is 10th appearance and second consecutive.

KEY PLAYERS -- F Shan Foster (6-6/Sr., 20.6 ppg, 4.9 rpg); G Alex Gordon (6-0/Sr., 10.5 ppg, 3.2 rpg).

THE BUZZ -- The Commodores, who went 19-0 at home, also posted a perfect nonconference schedule.

5. Clemson

LOCATION -- Clemson, S.C.

HOW THEY GOT HERE -- At-large bid from Atlantic Coast Conference.

RECORD, RPI -- 24-9, 19th.

NCAA HISTORY -- This is eighth appearance and first since 1998.

KEY PLAYERS -- G K.C. Rivers (6-5/Jr., 14.5 ppg, 6.5 rpg), G Cliff Hammonds (6-3/Sr., 11.7 ppg, 4.2 rpg), C Trevor Booker (6-7/Soph., 11.1 ppg, 7.5 rpg).

THE BUZZ -- The Tigers use a regular rotation of nine players, feature a solid inside-out combination and are one of the ACC's best defensive teams. Hammonds and Rivers are an underappreciated backcourt duo.

6. Southern California

LOCATION -- Los Angeles.

HOW THEY GOT HERE -- At-large berth from Pacific-10 Conference.

RECORD, RPI -- 21-11, 29th.

NCAA HISTORY -- This is 13th appearance and second consecutive.

KEY PLAYERS -- G O.J. Mayo (6-5/Fr., 20.9 ppg, 1.5 spg); F Taj Gibson (6-9/Soph., 11 ppg, 7.7 rpg); F Davon Jefferson (6-8/Fr., 12 ppg, 6.2 rpg).

THE BUZZ -- The Trojans are very young, which could hurt them in a close game in which they're heavily favored, but they could be dangerous if they get into the round of 16. They're highly athletic and were one of only three teams to beat UCLA in the regular season.

7. Gonzaga

LOCATION -- Spokane, Wash.

HOW THEY GOT HERE -- At-large berth from West Coast Conference.

RECORD, RPI -- 25-7, 31st.

NCAA HISTORY -- This is 11th appearance and 10th consecutive.

KEY PLAYERS -- G Matt Bouldin (6-5/Soph., 13.1 ppg); G Jeremy Pargo (6-2/Jr., 11.8 ppg, 6.2 apg), F David Pendergraft (6-6/Sr., 9.2 ppg).

THE BUZZ -- The Bulldogs have made one Elite Eight appearance and two Sweet 16 appearances the past 10 years.

8. Nevada-Las Vegas

LOCATION -- Las Vegas.

HOW THEY GOT HERE -- Won Mountain West Conference tournament.

RECORD, RPI -- 26-7, 24th.

NCAA HISORY -- This is 16th appearance and second consecutive.

KEY PLAYERS -- G Wink Adams (6-0/Jr., 15.9 ppg, 3.9 rpg), F Joe Darger (6-7/ Jr., 11.5 ppg, 4.7 rpg), G/F Curtis Terry (6-5/Sr., 10.5 ppg, 5.1 apg).

THE BUZZ -- UNLV had another good season despite losing five seniors off last year's Sweet 16 team and its best player off the bench. The Rebels are playing with a 10-man roster after three players were dismissed during the season.

9. Kent State

LOCATION -- Kent, Ohio.

HOW THEY GOT HERE -- Won Mid-American Conference tournament.

RECORD, RPI -- 28-6, 21st.

NCAA HISTORY -- This is fifth appearance and first since 2006.

KEY PLAYERS -- G Al Fisher (6-1/Jr.,14.3 ppg, 4.2 apg); F Mike Scott (6-7/Sr., 13.0 ppg, 6.2 rpg); F Haminn Quaintance (6-8/Sr., 9.9 ppg, 7.5 rpg).

THE BUZZ -- After a good regular season, Kent State could be poised to follow the 2001-02 team and make a run to the Elite Eight.

10. Davidson

LOCATION -- Davidson, N.C.

HOW THEY GOT HERE -- Won Southern Conference tournament.

RECORD, RPI -- 26-6, 35th.

NCAA HISTORY -- This is 10th appearance and third consecutive.

KEY PLAYERS -- G Stephen Curry (6-2/Soph., 25.3 ppg, 2.8 apg); G Jason Richards (6-2/Sr., 13.0 ppg, 8.0 apg).

THE BUZZ -- Curry, the son of former 16-season NBA guard Dell Curry, ranks fifth nationally in scoring and third in three-pointers made (125). Richards is the NCAA leader in assists.

11. Kansas State

LOCATION -- Manhattan, Kan.

HOW THEY GOT HERE -- At-large berth from Big 12 Conference.

RECORD, RPI -- 20-11, 50th.

NCAA HISTORY -- This is 23rd appearance and first since 1996.

KEY PLAYERS -- F Michael Beasley (6-10/Fr., 26.5 ppg, 12.9 rpg); F Bill Walker (6-6/Fr., 16 ppg, 6.5 rpg); G Jacob Pullen (6/1 Fr., 10.1 ppg, 3.3 apg).

THE BUZZ -- The young Wildcats are having one of their best recent seasons behind Beasley, who leads the nation in rebounds.

12. Villanova

LOCATION -- Villanova, Pa.

HOW THEY GOT HERE -- At-large berth from Big East.

RECORD, RPI -- 20-12, 51st.

NCAA HISTORY -- This is 29th appearance and third consecutive.

KEY PLAYERS -- G Scottie Reynolds (6-2/Soph., 15.4 ppg, 3.2 apg); F Dante Cunningham (6-8/Jr., 10.2 ppg, 6.6 rpg); G Corey Fisher (6-1/Fr., 9.7 ppg, 1.9 rpg).

THE BUZZ -- The Wildcats were on the edge of losing their season with a 3-6 start in the Big East before staging a February rally and winning six of their final nine.

13. Siena

LOCATION -- Loudonville, N.Y.

HOW THEY GOT HERE -- Won Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference tournament.

RECORD, RPI -- 22-10, 66th.

NCAA HISTORY -- This is fourth appearance and first since 2002.

KEY PLAYERS -- G/F Edwin Ubiles (6-6/Soph., 17.3 ppg, 4.2 rpg); G Kenny Hasbrouck (6-3/Jr., 15.7 ppg, 2.3 spg); F Alex Franklin (6-5/Soph., 15.2 ppg, 8.0 rpg).

THE BUZZ -- The Saints peaked at the right time, winning their final three games of the regular season before running through the MAAC tournament and crushing Rider, 74-53, in the championship game.

14. Cal State Fullerton

LOCATION -- Fullerton, Calif.

HOW THEY GOT HERE -- Won Big West Conference tournament.

RECORD, RPI -- 24-8, 80th.

NCAA HISTORY -- This is second appearance, and first since 1978.

KEY PLAYERS -- F Scott Cutley (6-5/Sr., 14.6 ppg); G Josh Akognon (5-11/Jr., 19.6 ppg); G Frank Robinson (6-4/Sr., 16.1 ppg).

THE BUZZ -- The Titans earned their second co-regular-season championship in school history. It was their first since 1976.

15. UMBC

LOCATION -- Catonsville.

HOW THEY GOT HERE -- Won America East Conference tournament.

RECORD, RPI -- 24-8, 88th.

NCAA HISTORY -- This is first appearance.

KEY PLAYERS -- G Jay Green (5-8/Jr., 8.9 ppg, 7.2 apg); G Ray Barbosa (6-2/Sr., 16.8 ppg); F Darryl Proctor (6-4/ Jr., 14.7 ppg, 8.6 rpg).

THE BUZZ -- The Retrievers are riding a wave of firsts. The team earned its first NCAA tournament appearance, America East tournament championship and America East regular-season title. It also recorded the most Division I wins in school history.

16. Portland State

LOCATION -- Portland, Ore.

HOW THEY GOT HERE -- Won Big Sky Conference tournament.

RECORD, RPI -- 23-9, 90th.

NCAA HISTORY -- This is first appearance.

KEY PLAYERS -- G Jeremiah Dominguez (5-6 Jr., 14.4 ppg, 4.0 apg); F Deonte Huff (6-4, Sr., 13.6 ppg, 6.1 rpg, 2.7 apg); C Scott Morrison (6-11, Sr., 11.3 ppg, 6.1 rpg, 2.7 apg).

THE BUZZ -- Portland State set a school records for most wins. Its previous best was 21 wins as a member of Division II.
