IT'S NO WONDER CARRINGTON SYDNOR ended up running his own skate and snowboard shop. He's got it in his blood. His parents own a similar shop called Under the Sun Sports in Frederick.

After a multiyear stint in Timonium, Sydnor and his wife, Jeannine, just reopened their 3Rideshop in an industrial-looking space near the Senator Theatre, across from the renovated and hopping Belvedere Square.

He said they were looking to be closer to city dwellers, college and private-school students and others who share the skating culture, although they wanted to keep their suburban customers.

The shop focuses on Sydnor's passions for boards. It's got all the stuff to go with them, too, like goggles, knit hats, videos, magazines and hoodies that go for up to $90. Outerwear averages $150 for pants and $180 for jackets -- though all the winter stuff is now on sale. He's said the average skateboard costs about $130 and is made by workers in the store on the spot. The average snowboard, with a board, boots and bindings, goes for about $600 to $650.
