Suns power past Spurs

The Baltimore Sun

Shaquille O'Neal had 14 points and 16 rebounds, and Steve Nash had 19 points and 14 assists, helping the Phoenix Suns to a 94-87 victory over the visiting San Antonio Spurs yesterday.

Grant Hill scored 18 points, including a crucial baseline 20-footer with 1:15 to go, as the Suns showed why they thought they needed O'Neal to compete with the rugged Spurs in the West.

Phoenix outscored the Spurs 14-2 in the final 3:40 to improve to 4-6 since O'Neal joined the team.

Manu Ginobili scored 22 points but missed down the stretch for the Spurs.

O'Neal's two blocks put him in the record books with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Hakeem Olajuwon.

Raptors 114, SuperSonics 106 -- Anthony Parker scored 23 points to lead six teammates in double figures in Toronto's win over visiting Seattle.

76ers 119, Bucks 97 -- Thaddeus Young scored 22 points, Samuel Dalembert added 18 points and 10 rebounds, and Philadelphia coasted to a victory at Milwaukee. The 76ers' fourth straight win moved them within a half-game of idle Washington in the Eastern Conference.

Pistons 116, Bulls 109 -- Chauncey Billups scored 34 points to lead host Detroit over Chicago in a close contest. Richard Hamilton scored 23 and Tayshaun Prince 21 for the Pistons. Ben Gordon led the Bulls with 27 points.

Kings 114, Lakers 113 -- Beno Udrih scored 25 points, including two free throws in the final seconds, to lead Sacramento over host Los Angeles. Kobe Bryant scored 26 for the Lakers.
