HCC trustees to meet in open session

The board of trustees of Harford Community College will meet in open session at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Chesapeake Center Board Room.

Anyone wishing to speak at the meeting must complete a request form and return it to marketing and public relations before the meeting.

Advising sessions planned for ESL

Harford Community College will offer English as a Second Language advising sessions.

ESL is for foreign-born adults 16 or older who would like to improve English communication skills, including listening, speaking, reading and writing.

Advising sessions will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday and March 31 at HCC; 10 a.m. Friday at Aberdeen Community Center; 6:30 p.m. March 17 at Bel Air Middle School; and 6:30 p.m. March 18 at Edgewood High School.

Free beginning and intermediate classes begin every six weeks.

Attendance at an advising session is required for entry into the classes.

Workshop to aid struggling readers

The Highlands School will hold a parent workshop, "Finding Help for the Struggling Reader," at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Joppa library branch, 655 Towne Center Drive.

School representatives will answer questions about resources and services available for struggling readers.

Harford Christian plans German event

Harford Christian School will hold its eighth annual Kaffee und Kuchen (coffee and pastries) German event at 10 a.m. Thursday at the school near Dublin.

Students are issuing an open invitation to native German speakers to join them for this interactive, get-acquainted session. German-language students use the event to practice and improve their own German speaking skills. Guests may share their memories and observations of their German homeland.

Adults can get help for GED

Harford Community College will offer Pre-GED advising sessions for adults who want to improve their basic reading, writing or math skills.

Free Adult Basic Education review classes or one-on-one literacy tutoring programs for beginning readers are available.

Advising sessions will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday and March 24 at HCC; 10 a.m. Friday and 6:30 p.m. March 17 at Aberdeen Community Center; 6:30 p.m. March 17 at Havre de Grace High School; 6:30 p.m. March 18 at Edgewood and North Harford High schools; 6:30 p.m. March 27 at Wilson Community Center in Darlington; and 10 a.m. March 27 at Edgewood Public Library.

Attendance at an advising session is required for entry into classes.

Dance company offers free class

In conjunction with the Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company's performance at Harford Community College, a free master class will be held at noon Saturday in the Amoss Center Dance Studio.

The Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company dances fuse the grace and splendor of Asian art with the dynamic freedom of American modern dance.

Class size is limited and reservations are required at jtrehern@harford.edu.
