Jim Johnson's a guy who really carries his family on his back.
Almost literally.
Johnson, the Orioles' 24-year-old right-hander, got a tattoo in the middle of last season that doubles as a billboard on the top half of his back.
Accented in green, red and black, the majority of the eye-catching tattoo is his family crest, complete with a detailed black bird in the middle. Above it is part of a Slovak crest in bright red.
"My family is important to me, I wanted something important," he said. "A lot of people make mistakes with tattoos that they don't like. You might as well have something you like, something you believe in."
