Providence proved to be the perfect remedy for an angry Maryland men's lacrosse team.

The No. 5 Terps, still seething from an eight-goal loss to No. 2 Duke on Saturday, took out their frustration on the visiting Friars and won in convincing fashion, 13-5, at Ludwig Field yesterday.

Maryland (3-1) scored the game's first eight goals, and nine different players scored.

"We definitely wanted to put that loss behind us and move on," freshman defenseman Max Schmidt said of the 15-7 setback to the Blue Devils. "We were eager to get out here and wipe that bad taste out of our mouths."

Freshman attackman Travis Reed registered his third consecutive hat trick, scoring his three goals in a span of 3 minutes, 19 seconds. Freshman attackman Ryan Young chipped in with two goals and an assist, and junior attackman Scott Tompkins added two goals.

Providence (0-3) was led by senior attackman Devin McBride's two goals and senior midfielder Mark Dillon's one goal and one assist, but the Friars were outshot, 49-14.

Providence didn't take its first shot until the 7:04 mark of the second quarter.

"They like to hold the ball and slow it down, and we didn't want to let them do that," Terps senior defenseman Joe Cinosky said. "So we kind of stretched out to see if they could handle some pressure."

Lynchburg 14, Frostburg State 11 -- Lindsay Lamont (Century), Carly Rihard (North Carroll) and Elisabeth Hildebrand each scored three goals, but it wasn't enough for the host Bobcats (0-2).
