No gambler left behind

The Baltimore Sun

Over the weekend in Las Vegas, former National League Cy Young Award winner Orel Hershiser played in the National Heads-Up Poker Championship that featured many of the best card players in the world competing head-to-head.

Against some pretty stiff competition, Hershiser, playing in his first big-time poker event, did exceptionally well, going to the elite eight before losing to pro Andy Bloch.

At the final table, Chris "Jesus" Ferguson beat Bloch in a best-of-three series, but what's interesting about all this is the credentials of the two guys who made it to the championship round.

Bloch has two electrical engineering degrees from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and graduated from Harvard Law School. Ferguson has a Ph.D. in computer science from UCLA.
