UMBC junior goalkeeper Jeremy Blevins (Calvert Hall) stopped a career-high 20 shots and senior midfielder Terry Kimener contributed a goal and a career-best four assists as the host Retrievers (1-2) defeated No. 20 Denver, 9-6, in blustery conditions.
Sophomore attackman Chris Jones added the first three goals of his career for UMBC, and sophomore midfielder Kyle Wimer had two goals and two assists.
Denver freshman midfielder Jamie Lincoln and junior attackman Cliff Smith entered the game with six and five goals, respectively but were held to one goal each. Joey Murray (one goal, one assist) and sophomore midfielder Charley Dickenson (two assists) were the Pioneers' lone multiple-point scorers.
UMBC jumped out to a 4-0 lead 7:03 into the game as Kimener assisted on the first three goals and scored the fourth. Wimer was the beneficiary of the first setup and junior attackman Alex Hopmann converted the second 4:02 into the game. Wimer added his second goal three minutes later, and then assisted on Kimener's score to give the Retrievers the four-goal lead.
Denver (1-2) cut the lead in half with a late first-quarter score by junior midfielder Brad Richardson and an early second-quarter goal by senior attackman Jon Paulson.
But Blevins and UMBC held the visitors off the board for the next 30 minutes and built an 8-2 advantage. The Retrievers scored four times in that span, including three extra-man goals, two of which were scored by junior attackman Ryan Smith (Fallston).
No. 14 Loyola 7, No. 17 Penn State 4 -- The Greyhounds held the visiting Nittany Lions to two second-half goals and limited them to one fourth-quarter shot. Cooper MacDonnell scored two goals and Shane Koppens had a pair of assists for Loyola (2-1). Rob Forster had a goal and two assists to lead Penn State (1-2).
Salisbury 19, Widener 3 -- The Sea Gulls set a school record by winning their 66th consecutive regular-season game, a streak that dates to 2003. Salisbury seniors Greg Titus (five goals) and Matt Hickman (two goals, two assists), and junior Kylor Berkman (three goals, one assist) led the Sea Gulls with 13 combined points. Senior Bruce Richardson scored four goals off the bench for the Sea Gulls (4-0). Juniors Stephen Krasco (one goal, two assists) and Patrick Bonanno (two assists, one goal) each recorded three-point games for the Gulls, and seven other Sea Gulls had a point. The Sea Gulls took advantage of the host Pride's 10 penalties by scoring seven man-up goals. Widener (1-1) was led by Clint Quedenfeld (one goal, one assist), and JJ Hoeffler and Cory Malampy scored a goal apiece in the loss.
Goucher 10, St. Vincent 5 -- The host Gophers went 5-for-6 on extra-man opportunities in their win over the Bearcats. Goucher (2-0) was trailing 2-1 late in the first quarter before Dave Duff and Brian Hoge (Arundel) scored during a three-minute penalty on St. Vincent for an illegal stick. Another extra-man goal by Duff 4:57 into the second period put Goucher ahead, 4-2. After the Bearcats (0-2) came back to tie the score at 4, the Gophers went ahead on a man-down goal by Adam Pietrocarlo with 3:32 remaining before halftime. Duff contributed three goals and Sam Fitzpatrick added two goals and three assists for the Gophers.
McDaniel 21, Moravian 3 -- Gibbs Preston (McDonogh) recorded a career-high eight points on four goals and four assists to lead the Green Terror (1-0) past the host Greyhounds (1-2). Matt Buschman (Calvert Hall) had five goals and an assist for McDaniel. McDaniel scored at least 20 goals in its season opener for the second straight year.
Washington College 15, Virginia Wesleyan 9 -- Senior attackman Chris Read (Boys' Latin) scored five goals in the host Shoremen's win over the Marlins (1-2). Four other players had multiple-point games for Washington (3-0).
Villa Julie 19, Messiah 13 -- Steve Kazimer scored a game-high nine goals to power the host Mustangs (2-0) past the Falcons (0-2). Richard Ford (Towson) added three goals and Drew Brady four assists for Villa Julie, which scored 12 second-half goals.

No. 7 Notre Dame 7, No. 12 Albany 6 -- Peter Christman scored with 23 seconds remaining to lift the host Irish (3-0) over the Great Danes (0-1) and extend their school-record home winning streak to 15 games. Junior attackman Duncan Swezey led the Irish with a game-high and career-high tying four goals. Corey Small scored three times for Albany.
