March 10 BRAC meeting set

Harford County officials have scheduled another in a series of BRAC town hall meetings for 6:30 p.m. March 10 at the Aberdeen High School auditorium.

Several speakers will offer updates on topics related to the nationwide military base expansion, which could bring as many as 10,000 new jobs to Aberdeen Proving Ground within the next three years.

Col. Jeffrey Weissman, the garrison commander, will provide a progress report.

Transportation officials will discuss a proposed transportation center in the Aberdeen area and road construction priorities.

School administrators will report on the new Homeland Security Magnet Program in the county's school system.

Harford County Sheriff Jesse Bane will address efforts to keep communities safe.

James C. Richardson, the county's economic development director, will detail ways his office is assisting organizations and individuals as they prepare to relocate to the county.

County Executive David R. Craig will lead a forum on common BRAC-related questions.

"BRAC is not some far-off and hazy entity," Craig said. "There are less than 900 days until the deadline for implementation on Sept. 15, 2011, as mandated by the joint resolution signed by President Bush.

"I highly encourage the citizens of Harford County to take part in this town hall meeting, as together we discuss and plan our future."
