Millar thinks pink, but bat doesn't hold up

The Baltimore Sun

Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-- --The Orioles shipped four bats to Kevin Millar that he kept stored in his locker at Camden Yards. One of them was the pink model he used last Mother's Day to promote breast cancer awareness.

Millar decided to take it into the cage yesterday for batting practice. Then he had another idea.

"I'm like, 'I've got to use it in the game,'" he said.

Millar waited until his second trip to the plate and lined out to left field. Up again in the fifth inning, he singled to left.

Unfortunately, the bat shattered upon contact, sending pieces of wood flying everywhere.

"It went down a hero," he said. "I gave it to the batboy and he's got himself a pink bat now."
