James Joseph Donohue, a retired calculator salesman, died Sunday in his sleep at his Catonsville home. He was 89.

Born in Baltimore and raised on Poplar Grove Street, he was a 1936 Mount St. Joseph High School graduate who earned a Bachelor of Arts degree at Loyola College. During World War II, he served in the Army in England and France and attained the rank of captain.

He was a salesman for the Monroe Calculating Co. for nearly 30 years and retired in 1977.

Mr. Donohue enjoyed baseball, softball, bowling and table tennis. He was an avid card player.

A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10 a.m. tomorrow at St. Mark's Roman Catholic Church, 30 Melvin Ave. in Catonsville, where he was a member.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, the former Florence Helen Groszer; three sons, Thomas Donohue of Catonsville, James Donohue of Elkton and Michael Donohue of York, Pa.; four daughters, Patricia Schaum of Ellicott City, Kathlyn Miller of Catonsville, Ann Marie Vieth of Ellicott City and Susan Marks of Ellicott City; ten grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
