At 2 a.m. Sunday, Baja Beach Club's final bender -- at least in its current location -- will come to an end.
The club, which has drawn legions of partyers in its 16-plus-year life span, will close its doors March 2. And unless a new home is found, we might never see it again.
That means no more tipsy crowds tripping across Lombard Street, snarling traffic just to stand in line.
Yes, Baja was just a party zone. But it was Baltimore's party zone. And, as such, it deserves a proper sendoff.
AN ODE TO BAHA BEACH CLUB
When we had a thirst
For cheap bottled beer
We went to you first
For (sleazy) good cheer.
The girls in short skirts
The guys with gelled hair
And unbuttoned shirts,
You knew they'd be there
To devilishly flirt
And cast off all care.
The beats you would bump
Were heavy indeed
They made our hearts thump
And eardrums bleed.
The chicks would get randy
The bros would high-five
They loved the eye candy
And knew how to jive.
Baja brought the heat
And West Coast flair
To East Lombard Street
Few clubs could compare.
It was dirty
It was slimy
It was flirty
It was grimy.
Lines snaked out the door
People waited to get in
There some hit the floor
From drinking too much gin.
Soon, the party stops
And the lights will go out
Baja's lease has been dropped
No more frolicking about.
Bye-Bye
Baja
We boohoo
For you.
