The motet

The lowdown -- The Baltimore Choral Arts Society will explore the motet -- works of generally short duration with sacred texts -- in a program that offers music by Monteverdi, Purcell, Bruckner and others. There will be room, too, for Broadway songs by Bernstein and Sondheim. Leading the concert will be Leo Wanenchak, assistant conductor of Choral Arts.

If you go -- The concert is at 3 p.m. Sunday at Grace United Methodist Church, 5407 N. Charles St. Tickets are $25 and $30. Call 410-523-7070 or go to balti morechoralarts.org.

Sacred opera

The lowdown -- The Book of Tobit tells a fascinating tale of a physical and spiritual journey. It has been turned into an opera, Tobias and the Angel, by Jonathan Dove, a British composer. The work receives its North American premiere by Opera Vivente.

If you go -- Performances are at 8 p.m. today, tomorrow and Saturday, and 3 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $30-$50. Shows are at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 811 Cathedral St. Call 410-547-7997 or go to operavivente.org.

Take 10

The lowdown -- The "In10" play festival gathers submissions, picks the winners and performs them. The catch is that all of the plays are 10 minutes. In these 10 minutes, writers seek to explore women's relationships and roles.

If you go -- Performances are at the UMBC Theatre, 1000 Hilltop Circle. Shows start Wednesday and go through March 9. Times vary. Wednesday's admission is $3. All other performances are $5 or $10. Call 410-455-2917 or 410-455-2476 or go to umbc.edu/theatre.
