Glen Burnie man held on drug charges
A Glen Burnie man was arrested on drug and weapons charges after he ran from officers and dumped a bag of cocaine and a stolen handgun, Anne Arundel police said.
Steven Christopher Salo, 22 of Budding Branch Road, was a passenger in a car that officers pulled over about 12:30 a.m. Feb. 20, police said. He jumped out of the car, and officers chasing him saw him rip open a bag and throw a white powder and a black Bersa .380 handgun, which was reported stolen. Officers recovered about an ounce of cocaine, worth about $2,800, in an apartment parking lot in the 8000 block of Winding Wood Road.
Detectives who searched his apartment recovered a Mossberg 12-gauge shotgun, loaded with six slug shells, about $200 worth of cocaine, a digital scale and several rounds of .22-caliber ammunition.
Salo was charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine, carry and transport firearm while trafficking drugs, possession of stolen property and other offenses.
Severn man arrested in attack on pair
A Severn man was charged with beating up two men in the parking lot of the Severn post office, Anne Arundel County police said.
An officer on patrol found the two victims, both from Glen Burnie, about 2:35 a.m. Sunday outside the post office at 819 Reece Road. A 22-year-old man was unconscious with signs of serious facial injuries, and a 20-year-old man had minor lacerations on his hand and face. The more seriously injured man was transported to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center.
The suspect, Kyle Jameson Pleffner, 21, of the 1400 block of Bittersweet Road, was quickly located, arrested and charged with first- and second-degree assault.
Pizza deliverer robbed of receipts
A pizza delivery driver was robbed at gunpoint of $13, Annapolis police said. The 23-year-old driver for PizzaBoli's had just made a delivery in the 800 block of Betsy Court around 11:30 p.m. Thursday when a man approached, pointed a handgun at him and demanded the money he'd just been paid. The victim turned over his cash and drove away.
Burglary suspect nabbed in Annapolis
A Washington man was arrested on charges of burglarizing an Annapolis home after the resident came home to find him on her back steps, city police said.
The resident, who lives in the 1900 block of West Street, gave police a description of the man she saw flee from her back steps around 10 a.m. Thursday. Kelvin Miller, 45, was arrested a block away. He was in possession of a video camera, DVD player, a conventional camera and a shirt, all of which were identified as being taken from the victim's home.
He was charged with first-degree burglary and related offenses. Police said Miller is also a suspect in other recent, similar burglaries.
Search of man leads to cocaine charge
An Annapolis man was charged with drug possession after a substantial amount of crack cocaine was found hidden on his person, city police said.
Police pulled over Traymon Ontario Larkins, 19, of Bell Weather Court about5:50 p.m. Thursday in the 1300 block of Tyler Ave. after noticing a burned-out taillight.
Officers were told he may have been concealing drugs, so he was searched at the police station, where police recovered a bag containing about 9 grams of crack cocaine .
Larkins was charged with possession of drugs with the intent to distribute.
City man is wanted in four assaults
Annapolis police are seeking a city man they are calling "armed and dangerous" who is wanted in at least four assault cases, including one involving a handgun.
Rashad Snowden, 20, whose last known address is the 900 block of Copeland St., is accused of striking his 19-year-old former girlfriend and her 8-month child at their Royald Street home on Feb. 3.
On Jan. 1, he also assaulted her, accusing her of seeing other men, police said. He is accused of entering her house without her knowledge or permission, ransacking and vandalizing it, taking the keys to her car and driving it away in August.
Separately, on Nov. 23, he is accused of pointing a handgun at a man getting out of his car in the Harbour House community, accusing him of "snitching" on a relative and threatening to kill him. The victim was able to knock the gun out of the assailant's hand before fleeing.
Snowden is described as black, 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighing 135 pounds, with brown eyes and brown hair. He has tattoos on both arms.
Witnesses reported seeing him on Bens Drive in the Bywater Mutual Homes community last week. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call police at 410 268-4141 or 911.
Man is arrested after threat to guard
An Annapolis man has been charged with assault after threatening a security guard at a public housing complex with a knife, city police said.
Jontae Arnell Powell, 20, exited the passenger side of a car parked illegally in front of the Glenwood Senior High-Rise apartment building at 701 Glenwood St. about 5:15 p.m. Saturday and went inside to visit a resident.
The security guard told the driver to move the car, but he refused. Powell returned, talked with the driver and then confronted the victim, brandishing a knife, police said. The security guard retreated to the interior of the building, and Powell left.
Powell was located a short time later and arrested and charged with first-degree assault and related offenses.
Driver pulls away, frustrating carjacker
A man tried to carjack a Riverdale man in Annapolis, shooting out a window before the driver crashed the car in an attempt to flee, city police said.
The victim told police that he and three friends were sitting in his car in the 900 block of Forest Hill Drive about 3:30 a.m. Sunday while waiting for another friend when a man approached, pointed a handgun at the driver and ordered him to unlock and open the car door.
The victim refused, and the suspect banged on the window with the gun, causing the window to break and the gun to discharge. The victim quickly drove off, but as he turned left onto Forest Drive, he lost control. The car struck a tree.
The victim suffered minor cuts to his face from the broken car window. The passengers were not injured. The carjacker is still at large.
Neighbors report burglar, prowler
Five homeowners in an Annapolis neighborhood reported being burglarized or finding signs of a prowler in their house or yard during a period of 48 hours last week, city police said.
A family in the 1700 block of Cedar Park Road said they awoke on Friday to find their side doors open, when they had been closed, but not locked, the night before.
About 4 a.m., the residents of a home on the first block of Rickover Court heard their dogs barking. They later found someone had opened their gate.
A resident of the first block of Fisk Circle reported that at 3:05 a.m., he saw a suspicious person standing to the side of his house as he arrived home. The person jumped over a fence and ran through adjacent back yards when he saw the homeowner approach.
At 6 a.m. Sunday, residents of a home in the 1700 block of Cedar Park Road were awakened by their burglar alarm. Someone had thrown a paving stone through their side door window.
Finally, the residents of a home in the 100 block of Sumner Road reported being burglarized Feb. 23 or 24 while they were away. The front door had been kicked in and the interior had been ransacked. More than $6,000 worth of household goods, including a TV, cameras and jewelry, were stolen.
Man is robbed, hit on downtown street
A Severna Park man was held up at gunpoint on a major downtown street, city police said.
The 22-year-old victim said he was walking on the 200 block of Duke of Gloucester St. around 7:10 p.m. Friday when a man approached and tried to start a conversation with him.
The victim ignored the man and continued on, but the man demanded his money and pointed what appeared to be a handgun at him. The robber took the victim's wallet and punched him in the face, then fled toward Church Circle.
