Fitch wins 140-pound title; McDonogh is 4th

The Baltimore Sun

Josh Fitch led McDonogh to a fourth-place finish at the National Prep Wrestling Championships at Lehigh University yesterday, capturing the 140-pound title with a 4-3 victory over Blair's Garrett Frey.

The senior and four-time Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association champion had never won this event and said it was a goal of his to do so, particularly after coming so close in years past.

"It was good to finally win one," said Fitch, who had finished third, second and fourth the previous three years.

Fitch led a group of eight Eagles who placed in the top eight of their respective weight classes, helping McDonogh finish with 177.5 points.

Blair took the team honors with 341 points.

"I thought we did really well," McDonogh coach Pete Welch said of his team's finish. "We had eight guys place, which was more than we've ever done."
