Palmer still able to work inside

The Baltimore Sun

Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-- --It's always fascinating to watch a Hall of Famer work a room.

The clubhouse seemed a little livelier yesterday morning after Jim Palmer showed up. Players approached him one at a time to shake hands, some of them initiating contact, others rushing over after he called out their names.

Palmer, part of the Orioles' television broadcast team, squeezed Brian Burres' arm and asked whether the pitcher had gotten bigger. Burres smiled and confirmed that he put on 2 pounds. Palmer tugged at Garrett Olson's blond locks, and the left-hander conceded that he needed a haircut. The highlight might have been when Palmer talked to Olson about pitching, and Olson nodded and asked questions.
