Rosamond Carter, 78

Rosamond K. "Roz" Carter, died in her sleep Wednesday at Gilchrist Center for Hospice Care. The former Lutherville resident was 78.

Rosamond Ruth Kraus was born in Baltimore and raised in Guilford. She was a 1947 graduate of Girls' Latin School and earned a bachelor's degree from Brenau College in Gainesville, Ga., in 1951.

In 1952, she married Dr. Donald S. Carter, an ear, nose and throat surgeon, who died in 2004.

Mrs. Carter earned a private pilot's license and enjoyed flying with her husband, who also had his license, to various East Coast destinations. They also enjoyed sailing the bay aboard the Portfolio, a Carver cruising yacht.

Mrs. Carter was a member of the Glen Arm Garden Club and enjoyed raising Yorkshire terriers.

She was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Long Green, where a private memorial service will be held Monday.

Surviving are three sons, Donald S. Carter Jr. of Halethorpe, Dennis P. Carter of Towson and John W. Carter of Owings Mills; and two grandchildren.
