Family movie night features Stuart Little

Friends of the Howard County Library will sponsor a Family Movie Night at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Central Library, 10375 Little Patuxent Parkway.

A film of the children's classic, Stuart Little, a story about the adventures of an intelligent mouse, will be screened.

Refreshments will be provided. Registration is not needed.

Fugitive Brass Quintet, Flute Cocktail to perform

The Oakland Nights Music Series, sponsored by the Town Center Community Association, will present a performance by two instrumental groups -- Flute Cocktail and Fugitive Brass Quintet -- from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. March 7 in the ballroom at Historic Oakland, 5430 Vantage Point Road.

Flute Cocktail, a flute choir, plays classical, popular, Celtic, Latin and Broadway tunes. The Fugitive Brass Quintet, a group of musicians from the Rockville and Columbia areas, consists of two trumpets, a French horn, a trombone and a tuba. Its repertoire ranges from classical to show tunes.

Admission is free; donations for the performers are encouraged.

Nominations sought -- The Wilde Lake Community Association is seeking candidates for five seats on the Village Board and one seat on the Columbia Council. The positions are for one-year terms, beginning May 1. Nominations will be accepted tomorrow through March 12. Interested residents can pick up a nomination packet at Slayton House. 410-730-3987.

Mah-jongg -- Those ages 18 or older are invited to Slayton House in Wilde Lake Village Center for mah-jongg at 10 a.m. Wednesdays. Admission is free. Participants are invited to bring a game and attend with a friend. 410-730-3987.

Teen models -- The Teen Role Model Competition, sponsored by the Columbia Association, will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. March 2 at Kahler Hall in the Harper's Choice Village Center. Teens will compete in evening wear and high fashion modeling, and answer questions about teen issues. Contestants will be judged on their ability to be role models for children. Winners will be crowned Mr. and Miss Howard County and will be asked to speak at middle schools and at a variety of functions during the year. First-prize winners also receive $600 worth of modeling and other classes at Inside Out Model and Talent Agency. Second-prize winners receive a $350 photo shoot, and third-prize winners receive a $100 gift certificate to be used toward classes at Inside Out. A live teen band will perform at the event, and refreshments will be served. Tickets are $10 in advance; $15 at the door. 410-715-5523.'Seussical' -- Atholton High School's theater department will present the musical Seussical on March 6-9. Performances will be at 7 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday. More than 100 Atholton students are participating. Guest performers include children from nearby elementary and middle schools. Tickets are $6 in advance; $10 at the door.
